Hi, We've been contacted by the organiser of Dragonmeet about helping teach some boardgames. The event is on 6 December at the Ibis Hotel Earl's Court. The games will be in a 'best of Essen' room run by Esdevium games and the following games will be showcased: Colt Express Camel Up Pandemic contagion D&D Attack Wing Cash and Guns 2nd Ed Splendor Five Tribes Black Fleet King of New York It's possible that we can get some of these games beforehand to try them out and learn the rules, but I guess I'd need people to bring them to the event if they did that. Otherwise we can just mug up on a few rulebooks beforehand. If anyone is interested in helping out teaching games for the day please let me know.

Tom, I'd provisionally be happy to teach D&D Attack Wing, Cash & Guns and maybe 5 Tribes. Though I'd need rule books for all!
Posted 11/13/14 2:09 PM
Will teach Splendor and King of NY for cash. Failing that, free entry.
Posted 11/13/14 2:27 PM
Heh, I don't think cash is on offer, but free entry yes.

Bumpety bump. Anyone else keen? There is a giant pandemic they need running too, I guess the same one we had at Nine Worlds the other year.
Posted 11/15/14 10:40 AM
I'll run the giant pandemic. Hey, it's my job.
Posted 11/16/14 10:46 AM
I LOL'd. Well done, that man.I'll run the giant pandemic. Hey, it's my job.

I might be able to make it, but can't promise yet. Not an expert at any of the games, but could possibly get away with doing Colt Express, Cash and guns, five tribes or King of New York.

Cool. It looks like we get expenses covered as well.

By the way, are we pretty much doing the games listed, or should we bring our own games as well in case we feel like teaching other games?

Hi Tom, I'd be interested in demonstrating if it's not too late - I've played pandemic (though not contagion) and splendour before; and demo'd last year in the dexterity games bit.

I don't think DragonMeet was 'all that' compared to Birmingham Expo; but it was good to see regular LOB members

No, boardgames are definitely an afterthought at Dragonmeet. It remains primarily an roleplaying con, so we have to ask whether its worth doing again. Thanks to Tom for what was a fun day for us demonstrators, largely playing amongst ourselves. Special mention goes to Jeroen for going above-and-beyond and demonstrating King of New York four times in a row.

Yep, thanks for all your help guys, much appreciated. I very much doubt we'll join something like this again, but it's been good to be a fringe part of a few cons here in London and have a bit more of an idea what it would take to start up a London boardgame con, which has been a long time back burner idea which needs reviving and putting into reality.

I was able to see your table and it seemed very popular. If the playtest section wasn't a thing, I would have definitely been helping out. For me, the time really flew by and I hope you guys had a good time also. I think it was good that we were placed together, in the room with other boardgaming things. Last time, you were upstairs and we were in the trader bit. So folk passing by playtest weren't as likely to want to sit down and play. I won't assume how it affected your day. But yeah, it'd be a shame if LoB were never at another non-LOB con. :-/

We weren't exactly at this one, were we? Just a few volunteers playing games on a cramped table. LoB as a club didn't really get anything out of it so I can't see us doing it again. People can always volunteer on a personal level though. But yeah, it'd be a shame if LoB were never at another non-LOB con. :-/

Yeah, now you've put it like that, I can see your point. :-( And yeah - you clearly could have used double the space. So, if LoB is to be at a con, there needs to be more liberty/autonomy for you to do something that's mutually beneficial. If it's just like this, presumably something will be posted and folk can choose to volunteer or not. With the previous cons LoB was at, were any of them actually something that LoB as a club benefited from?

I left pretty early, as there was just not enough table space. On the plus side, at least I finally got a game of Crockinole in I really enjoyed to con we did at Heathrow 2 years back, that was great fun, but the Dragonmeet ones have just been ok.

Cool. My private plane is booked; I'll be parachute jumping and arriving directly into the games rooms. Please ensure that the skylight is left open.Cool. It looks like we get expenses covered as well.

I was thinking about coming along so might be interested, but probably wouldn't want to spend the whole day there - how long would we have to spend doing it?

Seeing as Lloyd and Russel are down for other games, I could run Five Tribes. I do have the advantage of actually having played the game before (unlike the others), so just need to freshen up on the rules. I should be available during the day, but maybe not in the evening.
