Is anyone going this year? I'm flying out Wednesday night and stay for 4 nights. Would be great catching up if other members going.

I'm going for the first time. :-) Also going to be a 'business trip'. Come over and try out some quick games by me and Dave Cousins. ;-) I will be wearing red. :-) edit: I'll definitely be taking some breaks to wander the halls and have fun but I probably won't sit down for any 'full length' games. :-/

There will be lots of LoBsters. You will probably bump into fellow LoBsters every few minutes - if you recognise them - we should make some badges/stickers/t-shirts to wear. I am going Wednesday evening to Thursday evening.

I'll be there Thurs-Sun. Would it be a good idea to start a group message on meetup or BGG for us to exchange game info/arrange gaming sessions during Essen?

My birthday is the 9th October and I was considering going to Essen for it, but I had some questions: What do you go there for? Is it to pick up the hot new games before everybody else? With travel and accommodation costs, you're not getting it cheaper - but I guess you go because you love the industry? Do you get many games played? What have you enjoyed the most in the past? What are you looking to buy this trip? If I didn't make it, would anyone consider doing me a favour and picking up some small Eclipse expansions for me from the Lautapelit booth? I think they would each fit in an envelope. I'd love to get the Shadow of the Rift expansion too, but I think this would be too big for someone to bring back for me.

At least for me it is not about getting games cheaper, as you say it ends up being considerably more expensive then to just buy them when you get back. For me it is mainly about the fun of seeing everything coming out, and occasionally the trill of finding something that might not be seen again... (which objectively is stupid as all great things will come to market). You need to spend the money for the experience and nothing else.

Why do people go to Mekka? Do not start asking rational questions or it will all go to hell and not make any sense - just do it. (Totally agree with Pouria.)

Staying at the movenpick hotel. They have conference rooms dedicated for game nights.
