1. Unfortunately I'm away half term 24th / 25th sorry :( I have Fire in the Lake and was playing it weekly midweek at LoB - if you get going at 6:30ish it's definitely playable in one evening. If anyone fancies a midweek game I'd be up for that? I recommend you try GMT's Churchill to - it;s AMAZING - anyone fancy that?

1. How long does Churchill take to play? I was not too sure about it when it first came out - mainly because I like my WW2 games to involve moving tanks bank and forth across hexes... But I'm hearing only good things about it. Is it doable in an evening?

1. How long does Churchill take to play? I was not too sure about it when it first came out - mainly because I like my WW2 games to involve moving tanks bank and forth across hexes... Hey Steve it takes about 3 hours - it's totally unlike any game Ive played before, there's an amazing 'debate' section where, as Stalin Churchill and FDR you argue over certain issues as the war is coming to a close - you then apply the issues won to a map board of the various front advancing on Berlin to see what happens. Its ace - no hexes ! But I'm hearing only good things about it. Is it doable in an evening?

1. Churchill's great, I have a copy too and would be happy for a midweek session. Various COIN's should be doable in an evening too, on shorter campaigns and with an early start, I guess? I have ADP, but happy to play FitL too, would read up on the rules and the deck in advance. I'm always around weekdays, weekends on an off -- not this one, but most likely the next one.

1. I can do Monday too! That's Churchill sorted. I'll start reading rules on Sunday. I've RVSP'd with a +2. If you want though you can sign up as yourselves later and I'll downgrade to a 0. Not sure it actually matters though!

1. Unfortunately I only have VQ with me and I am at work currently. In any event Karen was coming on the basis of playing VQ, she has played it before. 1. Hi Chris - I'm not around this weekend I'm afraid, although regular HiS/VQ players Cedric and Ioannis might be around and up for it? Although you would still need more players. That said looking at the recent posts on this thread it looks like quite a few people want to play one of the COINS like Fire in the Lake and/or Churchill this weekend, with Saturday 17th looking popular. Could potentially have enough players to play both... Anyway would you (and others) be up for Virgin Queen on Saturday or Sunday of the following weekend - 24th/25th Oct? My friend Simon is back and has already said he would like to play VQ on one of those days.yo. i'm around this weekend if we can get VQ going...

1. I haven't heard of that one either, but I'm always willing to try something at least once! By the way, I recently acquired the deluxe edition of Great Battles of Alexander, the first instalment in the Great Battles of History series. I'm quite keen to get some games in, either during the coming weekends (not this one because I'm away), or during weekdays, so please let me know if you're interested. I have both the simple rule set and the normal one.

1. I have a copy of GBoA as well. Would love to give it a go. Also have SPQR. I have a bunch of OCS games - Reluctant Enemies (The introductory game), Burma, The Bltizkrieg Legend, and Beyond the Rhine. I think the bigger ones (particularly BTR and TBL) can make for great team games.

1. Does anyone have Napoleon's Triumph? I am really eager to try it, I wish it could be bought I'd get it straight away. I know it is basically a two playe game but read on BGG that it was played by eight people like a big big battle with many generals...

1. Played Triumph and Tragedy over the weekend. Try if you haven't its a fantastic strategic level WW2 game that plays in about 6 hours if you know what you are doing. Lovely mechanics and a truly 3 player game. Would be a good match for your group.

We've got the Frog all day and I was wondering if any of you wanted to go full hog on a game of Advanced Civilisation. My friend Bill is in - and I think if we get at least 5 players then it is very viable. I do have the Western Expansion Map so we could take 8 players. 1. I just received Sword of Rome, a CDG about the Roman conquest of Italy. The rules are fairly simple for a wargame and the game takes up to 4 players. I'd love to try a game on Sunday, unless there's interest in playing something else!

1. I'm not a big fan unfortunately. I have the base game, and I find that it degenerates into a game of who can get missile-armed interceptors first. The expansion is supposed to make it much better though.

1. They're not explicitly multiplayer, but there's very little stopping you from turning it into a map/team exercise, where you divide the front into areas of responsibility.

1. I can't this week unfortunately, but I'd love to get something going next weekend. Perhaps we can resurrect Virgin Queen? Otherwise I'd love to take another crack at Clash of Monarchs!

1. Good to have you back Ioannis. I'm also not around this week. But next Sunday I was actually wondering if we could play Mega Civilization which I got last week. It's the brand new updated version. https://boardgamegeek...­ It's a faster version of what we have played before - some new rules with slicker mechanics, more balance etc with potentially up to 18 players (although I appreciate that is not going to happen!) and still doable in 6-7 hours if we play the standard "Short" game. My friend Simon is up for it, and we're trying to rustle up some more players between us. I know you didn't take to the old one Cedric too much on your first play - but can I tempt you back with new shiny board and rules? :)

Hey guys I'm new to the group but would love to get involved with some board wargames although being a total newbie I only know Risk :S If people are will to teach I'd be interested in learning and playing with you. I watched a few youtube videos of Virgin Queen and US Civil war and both look fun albeit a little complicated!

1. Hi Matt We're very happy to teach the rules for these games to you. Most of the board wargames we play tend to be longer and more involved then the average Eurogames that are played more commonly at LOB. But personally speaking at least I think the wargames are more rewarding. If you want to get stuck into any of the games that we play then just hang out here on this thread - we tend to organize from here. It's been a bit quiet the last few weeks, but that should change soon starting hopefully this weekend!

1. 12 o'clock start - set up should not take too long. Understand if you would prefer to play Through the Ages though. Our game will take longer. Quite amusing that there are two ancient civ building games on at the same time! You can decide on the day if you would prefer.

1. Yea it seems a really active group! Through the ages looked fairly easy to play on the video I watched. I will take another look at the rules and game play of Mega Civ to see if I think I could pick it up with slowing you guys down too much.

1. You would not be slowing us down - the rules for Civilization are straight forward and not complicated like say Virgin Queen. I'm keen to encourage new players to these games so don't be put off on that front at least!

1. I'm probably going to be playing Twilight Struggle with Sami on Sunday so won't be organizing anything big for Sunday. Next weekend though (6/7) perhaps we can see if we have enough for Virgin Queen (or Here I Stand)? Who is around? So long as we finish in time for me to get home to watch the Superbowl! I also now have Triumph and Tragedy the game Ben recommended a while back. It's a 3 player so would be good to get that out of the box.

1. Agree completely with Ioannis. Sunday is far better (German bar music aside). Saturday at the Frog is very loud and crowded. If Cedric is around we have enough for 4 and I can try others as well.

1. I suggest we go with the quicker Tournament scenario which is 4 turns long. That would also encourage someone who wanted to try it for the first time.

1. I agree it is a bit easier - although I would hope the more experienced players would be able to offer handy hints to the new players. I was thinking more of time - the last time we played a full campaign game was just before Xmas - we got to Turn 6 after 8-9 hours! If we are going to grab a new player from the boards then a quicker sharper Tournament scenario would be ideal.

1. Hi I'm very keen to get another game of Civ in - ideally I'd like to play once a month or so - although it is a bit of an undertaking to bring it in! I'll ping Simon and Bill an email - perhaps Sunday Feb 28th? This Sunday I could be up for something else - if Cedric and Ioannis (and others?) are around then we could have another crack at Virgin Queen. I also want to get Triumph and Tragedy on the table - that takes 3 players max though.

1. Zoltan - very happy to teach -and I know you are an experienced gamer so you should have any problems with the rules. That makes 5 - Zoltan, Ioannis, Cedric, Matt and myself. I've asked Bill and Simon but not heard back yet. 5 players is fine though if need be.

1. I'll be in London for the first (and last) time in a while on Saturday 27th; anyone around? I've got rid of most of my multiplayer games as I don't get them played much any more, but I'm happy to play most things. CDGs, COIN, Maria/Friedrich etc. or maybe Pax Porfiriana or Pax Pamir - please just save me from having to play worker placement games all day! Could also potentially get some 2-player stuff played in the evening too.
